Two days in Zhangjiajie
One day above the clouds, one day in the valley, with Tianmen squeezed onto the way out.
Two days is the shortest trip that still feels like a holiday. The trick is to spend both nights in Wulingyuan, do the park while your legs are fresh, and put Tianmen on the departure day because it sits next to the airport and the railway station.
The route, day by day
Yuanjiajie + Tianzi Mountain
Gate at 06:45, Bailong Elevator before 08:00, and you will have the First Bridge viewpoint almost to yourself. Work the Yuanjiajie loop clockwise: First Bridge Under Heaven, Avatar Hallelujah Mountain, Soul-Dispelling Platform.
After lunch, shuttle to Tianzi Mountain for Imperial Brush Peak and Helong Park, then take the cable car down. Back in town by 16:30 — early enough for the Charming Xiangxi show if you want it.

Golden Whip Stream + Tianmen Mountain
Start with Golden Whip Stream from the Forest Park gate — flat, shaded, macaques, and the pillars seen from below. Two hours covers the best section. Exit the way you came and collect your bag.
Then transfer to the city (45 minutes) and do Tianmen with a pre-booked afternoon slot: cable car up, cliff walks, Heaven’s Gate, escalators down. Finish at the cableway station, 10 minutes from the railway station and 20 from the airport.
